Prevent Lead Poisoning
Do the New EPA Lead Paint Rules Affect You?

LOCATION:
Discovery Center

Sponsored By: USGBC

When: 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Where: Discovery Center, 4750 Troost Ave, KCMO

What: Tom Brick of US Environmental Protection Agency will share details on the new EPA Renovation, Repair and Painting Rule (RRP) lead paint regulations that take effect on April 22, 2010. The regulations apply to all renovations of apartments, homes, daycares, schools, or other childcare facilities built before 1978 to reduce human exposures to lead. The goal is to prevent lead poisoning of young children. The rules are specific about training, certification, notifications, work practices, verification, record keeping, and exemptions. Non-compliance will be very costly with stiff fines.  Lead-based paint was used in more than 38 million homes until it was banned for residential use in 1978.

Owners, landlords, property managers, architects, engineers, and contractors of pre-1978 housing, schools and childcare facilities are responsible for ensuring compliance with the rule and are important in protecting public health by helping prevent lead exposure from their units.
